What are the different types of wedges? (Pitching, Sand, Lob)?
I am planning to buy some new wedges and I was wondering which one. I am buying a Titleist Spin Milled Vokey Wedge. I wanted to know what the degrees mean. Should I buy a 52,54,56, 58, 60, or 62, 64?
Only you can determine what your game needs. You don't want to pick out a selections of clubs that will leave you a "hole", meaning say you don't have a club for 110 yrds. Degrees is the loft of the club just like with all golf clubs.Your Pitching Wedges are typically 46 to 48 deg, Approach or Attack wedges more like 52, 54..and your Sand Wedges 56, 58 and your lob wedges 60, 62 or even 64,65.
Another thing you need to be aware of is "bounce". This has to due with the shape of the club below the leading edge. A wedge w/o any bounce will be reletively flat making it easier to hit a ball of hard ground but would not "track" well when being pulled through a sand trap. Adversely, a club with bounce will track better through the sand or rough but will be hard to hit off hard pan. Cleveland and Titeist are great wedges...I play the Tour Edge Bazookas, 52 and 56...but due most of my chipping with my Pitching wedge. Say I am off the green by just a few feet.
